Well we know there is a problem with A because reputable press should be modifiying Scribners, not the book.

B-also has the same problem of modifying the book not the publisher

C- being sounds a bit awkward, but let's not eliminate it yet

D- the was is unecesary

E- is gramatically correct with the modifier propperly modifying Scribners and it much better than C, so this is our answer
