Good explanation Rachit Tiwari. The two things that the disintegration is doing need to be parallel and both of them need to be verbs. Hence choice B is wrong.

Provided is a verb ...the spectacular disintegration of blah blah blah provided blah blah blah. I haven't seen any such construction in which subject was separated from its main verb by a comma (modifier can come in between subject and verb but that comma will be for closing the modifier). This is the problem is b. Also b is out coz of parallelism. "How comets come from" is not parallel to "thus possibly forcing".

I think it's B. There should be a "," after the sentence as we are referring to the spectacular disintegration and not the telescope.
I might be wrong..
