# Jeff’s average (arithmetic mean) monthly utility bill for the months of June, July

GMAT Timer00:00
Jeff’s average (arithmetic mean) monthly utility bill for the months of June, July, and August was \$75. During which month did he receive the highest bill?
(1) The lowest bill was received in July.
(2) The total of his bills for July and August was \$160.

(A) Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient to answer the question asked
(B) Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient to answer the question asked
(C) BOTH statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are sufficient to answer the question asked, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient
(E) Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient to answer the question asked, and additional data are needed

From question : Jun + Jul + Aug = 225
Statement 2 : Jul + Aug = 160 . Hence Jun = 225 - 160 = 65
Statement 2 alone is insufficient to answer
Statement 1 :
Jul bill is lowest .
Statement 1 alone is Insufficient .
Combining Statement 1 & 2 :
Jun = 65\$ and Since Jul is lowset , let us asume that Jul = 64\$
Hence Aug = 225 - 65 - 64 = 96 \$
Hence for Aug , Bill is highest
Hence the question can be answered using both statements together.
(Note : We will never have Aug <= Jun as in that case Jul > Jun which will violate statement 1 that Jul is the lowest)
