In late 1997,the chambers inside the pyramid of the Pharaoh Menkaure at Giza were closed to visitors fo cleaning and repairing **due to moisture exhaled by tourists, which raised its humidity to such levels so that salt from the stone was crystallizing** and fungus was growing in the walls.
A) due to moisture exhaled by tourists, which raised its humidity to such levels so that salt from the stone was crystallizing
B) due to moisture that tourists had exhaled, thereby raising its humidity to such levels that salt from the stone would crystallize.

E.. see "growing" and "crystallizing" follow parallelism.. only options A and E have that.. but A has "levels so that.." phrase where "so" is redundant.. hence E is concisely the best option

Again. Focus on the intended meaning first. If you do that you ask yourself why were cleaning and repairing required? Was it the moisture? Was it because tourists were exhaling moisture? In fact none! It was to get rid of crystalized salt and fungus from the walls, which were the result of tourists' exhaling moisture. Once you understand the meaning, all the choices from A to D would seem ridiculously funny.:)
